I had these years ago and they're definitely top feeders. But watch them as
they tend to JUMP! As I remember we lost several to jumping and there was
only a thin slit between the frame and the glass canopy; just enough space
to drop food in.

When I set up this tank a few months ago, I purchased new hinged glass
covers with the cuttable plastic strips at the back end. I waited more
than two months before installing the plastic strips, while I moved
filters, added and subtracted filters, airlines, temp probes, until I
finally decided on the best location for everything. Then I got out
the plastic filler strips and measured and cut very carefully, so this
is the tightest cover any of my fish have ever known. And it puts an
absolute stop on any impulse I may have to move or exchange filters.
