Basicallys its one of those fluidised sand bed filters except set up
upside
down and instead of sinking sand it's filled with floating pumice chunks.
Not so sure but I think pumice may be an effective way to culture nitrate
eating bacteria. Closed pores and slow nutrient seepage?
Anyway sounds like a plan, at the very least the pumice makes a novel
media
for my ammonia and nitrite eaters to colonise the outside of.

still this things 2 big clear pvc tubes, managed to scrounge them, lucky

F'ink expensive to buy.
Kool to find, easy to build and here on da beach easy to get the media.
god knows how long they take to cycle though?
