Default filter built into tank

Ok, now after rereading your post, sounds like you are
describing a wet dry filter. A regular tank as a sump
would be better.

No, it's more like a built-in power filter, with vertical sections. It's in
the back right corner of the tank. The entire left side is screened for the
water to flow in, then
it goes over the first section, and under the last section, then out of the
box. Right now I
have the screen covered with floss, and the other sections stuffed with
bioballs with a powerhead pumping the water through and back into the tank.
