Default Powerhead screen

"Bryan" wrote in message ...
Any of you had livestock sucked into your powerhead?
I've read about it a bit and am looking to be proactive.

Any ideas on what I could buy or make to surround the powerhead
to prevent accidents? I have a small Rio800 btw.

It all depends on what animals you have...
Standard screen is usually good enough to protect fish.
Problems are with animals having soft bodies like anemones,
slugs - they can find their way into the pump and screen
does not stop them... A pump like Rio 800 will not be easy
to protect. Other pumps, with a regular intake in the form
of a pipe allow you to attach a long strainer and then to
put sponge/foam to further disperse water sucking action...
So as long you do not have new anemones or slugs you should
be all right with your Rio800.
