it really depends. If you are using the carbon as a bio filter you
might be getting rid of to much bacteria, but it is hard to say. If you
do a test for ammonia and nitrate the day ofter a change and they are
both zero you are not changing out to much.

Me I would still change out the carbon with every water change it will
keep the water clear.
