I'm curious to the ease of acquiring the male betta imbellis. I've just
got to remember imbellis when I call the LFS.

Ah....very hard to find Betta Imbellis in shops. Some mom and pop
stores will get them every now and then, but usually if you ask them to
order them they can get some.

I remember yrs (like maybe 13 ago) Petsmart in my area had a "female"
Betta shipment.
There were several Imbellis males in the tank. I had to help the kid
because he didn't know the difference between a male and female. Turned
out the Imbellis males were shipped separately and they thought they
were female Splendens.
This is the sad part....he then asks me to teach how to tell the
difference between a male and female livebearer. This kid knew nothing
about fish or any of the species he was selling to folks. Typical
Petsmart!
I understand everyone has to learn. However, do it before you work in a
shop and for goodness sake, Petsmart should be teaching these people
before they start on the floor.
Flash forward to today....the stores are still the same.
