What do you mean by colder temps? Mine live over 4 years at room temps.
We
keep our home at 76F in the winter. Days are warmer when the sun shines
in.

Oh good lord my bullshot meter just pegged with this doozie! You keep
your house at 76 degrees!!!

Why not? Energy isn't expensive here. I'm on the TVA grid. What do you
keep your house at?

That is so abnormal that it reeks of bull
poopoo! It sure does serve this arguement well however...

Since when is 75 or 76F abnormal? I'm talking F, not Celsius. Power isn't
expensive where I live. We also have a wood-burning fireplace and cut our
own wood from our property. If you're too poor to heat your own home that
is unfortunate. On sunny days in winter it is often 79 to 80F in here.
With the dry air it's very comfortable.

I guess one could keep bettas in small jars if:
You replace the water twice weekly with pure natural river water

Right, everyone has a river out their back door. No need to use tapwater
and dechlor anymore. ;-)

You only feed them select live natural insects flown in from Saigon
You grow naitive dwarf rice plants in the jars

You got it that's what some people do I'm sure - along with keeping them in
filtered heated tanks.

The fish are offered a choice of natural sunlight, filtered sunlight,
or shade and you keep your house temp at a constant 76 degrees.

That's the blessing of *central heating.* It's called a heat-pump. It
makes for nice even temperatures year 'round. Here in the USA most people
have central heating. No need to spend the winter shivering in the Southern
USA.

yeah, right.
I keep my Koi in a baggie too.

How nice. :-) You must save a lot of $ that way.
