I have these all over my tank, the only place they won't grow (as already
mentioned) is in the MH light umbrella (and my 24/7 lit sump!)

They seem to be harmless but if you do notice the smothering affect act then
as excessive removal of what essentialy 'filters' the water as a past-time
may have more of an affect than leaving alone.

They may even find a natural balance once nutrient levels have been reduced
through them feeding.
