Thanks for your response. I`m talking A LOT of algae growth. The algae is
growing on the hermit crab shells! Also---many different kinds of plants
have sprung from the rock and are growing wildly--some have reached the
water level and need to be trimmed.
Theres no way a few snails will do it. I have to be more careful about what
I put in the tank, add more clean up crew as you`ve suggested, and figure
out a refugium I can live with.
I know, I know---I should have stuck to the FOWLR gameplan---but what can I
say?--I got the bug.

Ive been avoiding the sump/refugium thing because of the risk of flood (I
am no plumber!). Would hanging a 16" X 4" X 4" box stuffed with Chaeto
on the INSIDE of my 65 gallon tank be effective in reducing nuisance
algae in the rest of the tank?
My logic, newbie as it is,tells me it would---but set me straight. Give
me some pros and cons.
Thanks again.
PS: a couple of small starfish have emerged in the tank---too cool.
I started to have a similar problem and added several conks and turbo
snails. I think a Refugium is a few months in the future for me, but your
reasoning seems good to me. But, I'd hesitate to take advice from a
newbie like me.
