Hi Dave,
I don't know if it's the same thing but I have a 120 litre tank (30 US
Gallon) which I'm currently running through a fishless cycle and since
I put in a nice java fern on bogwood and some other plants to help
things along I've got an infestation of small white 1/4 inch threads
which attach to the glass and filter housing. If I look really
closely they have a tiny branched bit on the end (like little
umbrellas). At first I thought they might be some kind of spore since
there is also a heavy infestation on the java fern but under a
microscope I've seen both a 'hydra-like' infusoria spp and branched
thread like thing with these little moving blobs on the end. I'm not
so worried about the hydra type creature but the branched thing could
be some kind of fungus and seems to fit better with what I'm seeing
with the naked eye. I haven't yet been able to identify it. There's
a sketch I made at:

Maybe I need an anti-fungal too?
Thanks,
Muddy
