I'm officially excited. I was in my LFS yesterday to get
some more Neon Tetras and saw they had Yo-Yo loaches. I
bought the Neons and went home, thought about it, debated
with myself, then gave in to impulse and went back for two
loaches. They are so cute! They are now in my 20 G long
tank. They weren't very shy and seemed to adjust to their
new environment quickly.

I know they will get to 3-4" eventually, but how long is
that? I'm still quite new to loaches, have 2 Skunk botia I
bought about 2 months ago. Do they tend to grow quickly or
slowly? The reason I ask is I'm probably looking at yet
another tank upgrade, but having just upgraded in the past
several months, it will be next year before I go for a
larger tank.

The growth rate of these fish is very dependant on the availability &
types of food provided. A diet of flake food might achieve almost no
perceptible growth, while a tank full of snails with a diet of brine
shrimp & bloodworms will cause a grown rate which will might make you
start worrying about your Neon's safety ;~)

To cite an example, if I drop 2 Yoyos juveniles (1.5") in a tank full of
snails, the first one to figure out that snail=escargot=food will be
noticeable larger in just one week, as compared to his partner. In 2
months, if only one is eating snails, there will be an inch difference
between them (almost double the size difference).
