I've had one now for 9 years, what is the lifespan on these guys?
It's probably a bristlenose. If so it's a Ancistrus not a Plecostomus
Ancistrus will live for up to 20 years and grow to about 6" while
Plecostomus will live much longer and grow up to two foot. Ancistrus
will breed under rocks in an aquarium and can produce hundreds of
young. Plecostomus breed in river banks so there is not much hope of
seeing them spawn in a tank.
Whoever started calling bristlenose a pleco caused a lot of confusion.
They are very different.
