The reason that weld-on 3 works best, is because it's a solvent. Any time
that a plastic can be bonded using a solvent, using the solvent is the
best way to go, instead of using a glue.

Weld-on 3 works good on a number of other plastics as well. It's handy to
have around.

Weldon #3 or #4 or #16 is what they use on acrylic when they buiild
fish tanks and yes it is marine / reef safe. It is a solvent that
when its evaporated is safe. Last I knew hazmat shiping charges on a
small container of it is $$ so you may be better to try and find it
locally from a plastics supply or such. I have seen it already in
Michaels Arts and Crafts store under the name of Hobbix acrylic
solvent, in about a 2 fl oz bottle, The main ingredieint is
methylene chloride. There is a 2 part solvent based heavy bodied
adhesive / glue sold by Devcon. Its a 2 part mix but its not reallay
epoxy. In one of the tubes is a thickened compound that has methylene
chloride init, which is needed to melt and create the bond of acrylic
plastic. The other part is a thick filler to build up joints and
fillets etc. I have used this stuff with sucess as its made for Plexi
etc when I needed a thicker bodied cement. Weldon and IPS also makes
this same cement as well. You can usually find a blister card package
of this stuff at most any Wal Mart in the paint department where they
keep glues and sealant and caulks at. Its made by Devcon and will
state for plastic or its called Plasticpoxy or something like that.It
stinks but the snmell goes away when its cured.
