I used to set up my first tank. I was using tap water then to make my own
sal****er. My tank was healthy.

Now I have a reef and try not to used chemicals to treat water. As a matter
of fact I still have a couple of bottles of amquel.
I think chemicals stress the inhabitants in the tank, even the ph
powder/liquid, specially on the invertebrates. Fish are more tolerant to
them.

Back then, It was recommended to me by my LFS to be the best brand in the
market.

What exactly are you planning to use this product on? What's the problem?
Perhaps some water changes, less overfeeding and a piece of restrained macro
algae (away from your tangs) could do the job. Sometimes we overlook small
things like water movement : cleaning the pump/powerhead/canister
filter/chiller to max their output. I do vacuum the sand/rock every now and
then.
