They have kept me on my toes, but it's been a long time since I've had
black angels of this quality.
Yrs ago (like17+) I got my angel stock from a great breeder in IL.
I had such lovely (breeding pairs) of blacks from his stock.
I recently found out how well known his fish were, and that others too
were still missing his stock. He disappeared and no one heard from him again
(crazy story).
These blacks are quite similar to his. It's the shape of the body and
head..and meaty, with proportioned fins.
What a bummer. There was an angel breeder in Nashville who turned out the
most beautiful gold, marble and pearlscale angels and he too vanished off
the radar screen. I think sometimes the local market gets flooded and they
just stop breeding. I haven't seen any angels in any of the stores in awhile
now. The last were sickly looking, very thin and inactive.
Some angel's have a slightly different head / mouth shape that is too
"pouty" for me. Not anywhere near *the Altum's stuck up face. Does
that make any sense, lol.
Yes, I know the shape you mean. *:-)
I don't care for Altums, but can see their beauty.
I like a more smoother curve of the head and mouth.
I was so happy to hear that this breeder will be at the next swap
meet, and he's bring more blacks!
Yippy, yea, yahooooo!
I told him I'll see ya there with lots of cash! He laughed.
My son will be taking some of my current stock to make room.
The ones not worthy of breeding, and also a female silver pearlscale,
and a marble / pearlscale cross that was stunted when purchased.
Those 2 last ones have paired up before, so they might for him too.
The new female gold, and the male gold pearlscale, and a smokey male
will stay.
The smokey male will probably have to be moved though. He's the alpha
of the other angels and the 2 males of the 3-some of blacks have a
good go from time to time.
There is a definite line down the middle of the tank. Either one
crosses that line and it gets it.
Neither needs the stress.
With having the other 2 golds on the other side to them selves, I'm
hoping they'll pair up.
I sure am hoping for angel fry. Lots and lots!
There are NONE in this area that'll stay alive more than a week or
two. Spindly, thin, crappy things to boot.
Angels of really nice quality coming back into the area is a long time
coming!
If only I could find the same qualilty of pearlscales. They pop up now
and then. Even more rare...quality ones.
I have a gorgeous gold male pearl that I have been trying to pair up
with another pearlscale. He paired up with a silver female pearlscale,
but the eggs got eaten (twice).
Then they never spawned again.
I've seen gold pearlscales since, just crappy quality though and a lot
of deformaties. = (
Yep! *Same here. *The last angels I saw were a few months ago and all looked
like underfed culls. Crap. Nothing I would take for free.
At the next swap in April I'll be on the lookout for a couple more
black females from this breeder.
If my male perlscale paired up with a black female, that's fine and
dandy with me, and the gene pool. = )~
Are you going to start removing the eggs or try to let the parents raise
them?
Good to hear your satisfied with the angels. Petland only had 4 large
angels for sale today........and if I was going to be around here long
I would have bought them...about the size in diameter of what a soda
can is.......for $8.99 each and they were listed as black marble
angels.
