Default Algae?

Does it look like this \|/ kinda or \\||//||//\\||//

If it's the first, I'll bet it's Black Brush Algae, if it's the latter,
you're on your own....

For BBA, search down a bit, Chris_S had a great article about Erradication
of BBA, and many users posted on it... very informative, and even useful..
I had to follow his lead after many months of battling it...

Since you're in the beginning stage, my suggestion would be to manually
remove as much as possible, cutting leaves that are affected, and maybe
pulling the driftwood and soaking it in a light bleach solution for an

hour
or so, scrub and clean it and return it when possible...

Not sure what's possible with prevention... sometimes it just comes and
others have NEVER had it....

I have what I presumed at first was hair algae in my tank but having
done some reading up it doesn't appear to fit the description. It is
a dark blueish green colour and appears more structured than one
would expect algae to be - seems to have a central stem with branches
coming off, looks a bit like a minature silver birch in winter. It is
growing on the leaves of my crytpcoryne and also on the drift wood.
Seems quite tough and well attached. Any ideas on what it is and how
to control it?

Thanks

is that better??

Thanks for the link Craig and in answer to Red it doesn't look like the BBS.
Similar colour but a lot longer and more spread out. As I mentioned in the
original post the only thing I can liken it to in structure is a bare tree.
I've been removing leaves and pulling it off of the driftwood so will see
how it goes. It's not really out of hand, just wondered what the hell it was
