a Duetto. i have recently changed from a high protein to a low protien
fodd. i am changing 20% of the water every other day, with a complete rinse
of the gravel, and wash of the tank every weekend. please offer some
advice!

I used to have two painted turtles. This may seem unorthodox, but it
worked for me. I had a big aquarium (75 gallon long) and had it filled
about 3/4 full. I had a Penguin box filter on the side. I had it so
that the turtles would climp on top of the filter (and one smooth rock
next to it) to get out of the water. I had a basking lamp right above
that. I didn't have gravel in the tank (too hard to keep clean) and
did a 25% water change twice a week. I would feed the turtles in a
plastic storage box to keep the tank cleaner. They ate earthworms,
chopped fish, plants, and turtle food. The turtles were pretty happy
in there along with some goldfish and hornwort plantsfor over 3 years.
Sadly, the tank leaked one day, 'causing water to go through the floor
and into the basement. That was the end of my turtle keeping hobby.
Now, I know that you have to have a piece styrofoam between the tank
and the stand to prevent pressue points on larger tanks.
