Ordinarily, I'd agree with Red, but Gouramis are particularly susceptible
to fungus, so in their case, an off line treatment can make sense (also
keeps the carcass away from the others if it dies). There is a good
chance the other fish will be unaffected by the disease, so it's nice to
not expose them to the medication (and you, the expense). The gamble is
that later you put your newly cured Gourami back into the main tank, and
the same fungus gets him again. This can happen, and in my experience,
it depends on the type of fungus and the health of the fish to resist the
fungus, The type which starts on the fins is much more pervasive that
the one you described, so ymmv.

In my opinion, I've never isolated a fungus problem, I treat the
tank...
Reason is, the cause of the fungus, if unknown, could have affected all
fish... if it's a 'known' fungus, then isolation could be the route...
I've
always used Jungle Labs Fungus Eliminator... turns the tanks a nice
yellow
color, but 9 out of 10 times, it'll work and it won't stress out the
other
fish as much... notice I said, as much....
