Betta with frayed fins
|| I took the plastic plants out, and I'm going to try and find
|| replacements that are a little more soft edged. I came home today
|| and his top fin is now frayed as well sigh. So I decided to ditch
|| the plants. I put in an extra jar for him to hide in.... everything
|| else in the tank has smooth edges now. Unless he is getting his fins
|| tied up in the intake tube of the filter system, there's not much I
|| can do about that. Or is there?

I've got a betta, in a 5g with 2 ADFs, they love the tank... but one thing
about ADFs, they have a tendancy to jump out when surfacing for air... so we
lower the water about 1.5" from the top.. this creates alot of noise when
filter is kicking at 100%.. So what I do to slow down the flow, is pull up
on the intake tube, just enough to slow the flow... Take a look at your
filter and if you can, gently pull up on the intake tube and see if that
doesn't slow things down a bit... it also lessens the vacuum and if he IS
getting caught inthe intake tube, that can help... Mine pulled so hard, I
took a peice of sponge, cleaned it, and stuffed it into the basket that
covers the intake tube... I didn't totally block it, there's a 1/4" area at
the top that is open... nothing actually blocks the flow, just slows it down
to more managable flow...
