Is that RO/distilled really necessary? That would add substantially
more $$$ for those that don't have a RO setup, like me.

I buy my RO water from Wal-mart. It only costs 39 cents per gallon. Not too
expensive and you can bring your own container and fill it yourself. Look
for a Culligan machine in the store. It has worked for me.
