Default P. crabro

I have a P. crabro, which I always thought was a female based on the low aggression factor. Lately, however, the fish is becoming more aggressive. I have a male Kenyi that used to chase this crabro, but now the crabro is chasing the Kenyi (and the other two cichlids in the tank). The crabro is also turning "black" a lot more than it used to. The fish is darker all the time now, but at times I can hardly see any of the yellow stripes (spots) except for the top portion of the fish. Is this a good indication the crabro might be a male?
