home made food
Go to a local feed store (not a fish store) and see if
you can buy a pellet fish food (aka "trout food").
They are usually from 40 to 50+% protein, made
with fish meal, etc.
MUCH MUCH cheaper, and as good as flake food.
Pulverize pellets in a blender, mix with nearly any veggie
you eat, (all below are fine.. and sweet potatoes,
squash, lettuce -- produce dept scraps! can be used
too).
Do not boil the fish!! Fish oils are GOOD for your
fish!! Use raw. I use whole smelt, the 'cocktail'
shrimp, etc..
Knox gelatin is fine if you can't find the agar. But
about 1/2 ounce gelatin to a cup of your "gruel"
and I lay mine in cookie sheets till they set, then
cut into sizes for one feeding.
Bob
what type of fish is it for?
I make mine using
pack frozen spinach
hand full off cooked prawns
packet off frozen marinara mix
peas
some quality flake food
I piece off white fish flesh (boiled to remove fat)
put it all in a blender and mix it up, then mix up some agar (vegetarian
gelatine) to bind it
put it in zip lock plastic bags and roll into thin sheets and freeze
try to stay away from anything that may have animal fat, cause its no good
for your fish
