Do yourself a favor-buy a UV sterilizer, plumb it correctly (it must
be plumbed in parallel with the main pump-flowrate through the
sterilizer is of paramount importance) and you will never have a
disease outbreak again.
NEVER....say never when dealing with an animal, such as fish....
especially when speaking of diseases....

UV sterilizers of course help to eliminate disease causing pathogens, free
swimming parasites etc however they will never completely rid a tank of
everything.

Properly sized and plumbed sterilizers with the proper flowrate eliminate
the vast majority of disease causing pathogens. Assuming you have good
water quality and have chosen good tankmates, your fish should be able to
fight off any infection it happens to still be exposed to.
I have used a sterilizer for 15 years and in all that time have never had a
fish die of disease. They have died of aggression (my fault for being
ignorant), but not disease.
So in a practical sense, I stand by my use of the word never.
Short of good bio filtration, a sterilizer is the single most important
piece of filtration equipment you can own.
