Default digging

Hau kolas..quick question..I've got an unidentified small cichlid..about 3"
long, dark grey body with 5 darker grey vertical stripes and black fins (I
picked it up as a juvenille from an "assorted tank" about a year and a half
ago when in my ignorance about compatabilites etc. and have never seen it
again to ID. the fish, due to severe aggression when placed with apparently
any other cichlids, lives by itself in a 10 gallon unplanted tank. It has a
few small caves in the tank and is pretty much obsessive that no gravel
substrate can be in these caves. Sometimes it will carry a mouthful of
pebbles only outside the cave and deposit them, others it will swim around
and dump them at varying heights. Different species dig for various
reasons..but is the fish simply bored, trying to entertain itself? The only
tankmates it will tolerate are snails, and they can't be much fun
heh..until it finds a way to kill them too, then it'll be a party Not a
big concern, just curious. Any ideas? TIA
