Well, first of all, it wasn't nature that caught him on a hook, and

Jonathan if this has a whitish appearance it is likely a fungal infection.
You can net the fish and while gently holding the fish in the net apply some
meth. blue or other anti fungal medication directly to the spot uisng a q
tip.
