Default Bacteria bloom

your pH is fine. leave it alone. that is nitrite that is 20 correct? just keep
changing water until that ammonia ad nitrites are barely detectable. Ingrid

OK..finally have some tank stats for y'all:

Ammonia: 1.0 (person at pet store found .5)
ph: 8.4 (7.8 in store)
Nitrate: 20
Nitrite: 0
Hardness: 300
Alkalinity: 300

(Any reason for the discrepancies? Which one should I go by?)

So, basically my water is crap right now. I've put in "ph decreaser," I plan to
change 25% of the water tomorrow, and add Amquel+. Any other suggestions? I
don't remember my water being so bad when I had a fish tank before.
