You don't need the skimming action of the skimmer, but you will (may) need
the aeration. I would add a couple of airstones in the mean time.

The product is Quicktite for Plastic by Loctite. It is holding and I
plugged in my skimmer. It seems ok. I will check it before I leave for
the weekend. The skimmer is in the sump. I have arranged for someone
to drop by on the weekend to check on it. I'll just order the
replacement parts and wait and see.
