1) No clue
2) If you don't have aquarium salt in there normally, you might add 1
teaspoon per 5 gallons to help him heal. (and another 1 teas/5 gal
tomorrow, and one more the day after that, to a total concentration of
3 teaspoons/5 gallons).

How old/how long has the tank been running?
