Safe to put Clay pots in Tank?
Vissy,
Just because it is a terra cotta pot doesn't make it acceptable for tank
use. If you use terra cotta pots in your aquarium they should be the higher
fired pots that have a harder appearance. There are inexpensive pots that
come out of Mexico or South America and they have a lot of heavy metals in
them, including lead, making them unsuitable for aquarium use.
Ask for country of origin, and if the pots have a lighter feel and do not
have a finished outside appearance it is best to leave them alone.

OH, but don't use the saucers. Sometimes the saucers are dipped in an
invisible sealer to make them more waterproof. Dont' know whether
it's toxic to fish or not.
The pots themselves are not sealed because their porousness
(porosity?) is the selling point.
