Hi all,
They eat for
a good five minutes or so, then spend a big part of the day searching
for leftover tidbits they might have missed, kissing the sides of the
tank for
algae, etc. I was wondering, it's probably natural for them but I
wanted to
check -- are your fish hungry little buggers, too? Also, I was
feeding them twice per day in the very beginning, and then it seemed
too much so I went
to once per day. Am I better off feeding them a smaller amount, but
twice per day?

This is perfectly normal behavior, a booking goldfish is a happy
goldfish. As for feeding? They probably would like smaller meals
several times a day rather than one big one.

Thank you both for the advice. Unfortunately, I had a disaster shortly
after I wrote this message. I'd changed the water in the tank today using

a
different water source than usual. A few hours later I went by the tank

to
find the fish floating. I am afraid that the water source I used had

either
soap or detergent of some sort on it, and it killed them quickly. I tried
water changes, to no avail.

I feel pretty lousy, needless to say. Two healthy fish, gone in almost an
instant.

Oh dear... I'd feel crummy too. Well, when you're ready to get some new
fish, then you can feed those ones a few times a day. Try not to beat
yourself up about these fish... just learn from the mistake.
