Default Very new to all of this

Goldfish are not cold water fish. Their metabolism is most functional at 70+ oF.
They can stand cold water without dying, but their system winds down from 55oF or so.
GF do best with constant temperatures, so a heater is essential, and 75-78oF is
recommended for fancy GF with long flowing fins or big round bodies.
Goldfish will eat their own eggs, will eat their own babies and anything that fits
into their mouth. In many pet stores GF can be seen eating on dead or dying other
GF. the fact that many GF young survive in ponds is more due to good hiding skills.

Anne, goldfish are cold water fish, meaning they don't really need a heater,

but goldfish will not eat even there own babies, once they
swim free and look like fish.
