FAQ Review
Okay, I guess I'll bite the bullet. (I'll just have to keep it from my wife
for a while lol)
What is the best DIY place to go? hellolights seems pretty good. Any
others?
TIA

Spend the money now and get better lighting, I too had regular NO's they
are
not very good if you plan on keeping corals, yes while some have alright
luck with them most don't. Your corals will do much much better with
PC's,
VHO's, or metal's!! I tried the root of NO's they were ok for fish only
tanks, went to VHO's and man what a difference, corals opened up and have
almost doubled from the NO's, much more colour in the corals and the whole
tank is much brighter. Spend the money now on better lighting or you will
end up spending even more down the road. Hope this helps!

I have two 40 watt NO lights on my tank and the live rock does just
fine.
It's a 55 gallon tank. I am using coralife bulbs.. a 10kK and an
actinic..
probably going to replace the actinic with a 50/50 as it's a bit too
much
blue into the tank with the full actinic. I have a huge ricordia that
dropped off a baby a couple months ago, tons of polyps of various
types..
all these supposedly require much better lighting than what I have,
but
it
works just great so far. My personal opinion is go with the NO's and
see
if
you like it ok. Mine consist of a Lights of America brand two light
shop
fixture that I have sitting right on top of the tank. This one has the
reflectors that come all the way down the side, unlike other cheap
shoplights which HAVE to be suspended because there would be nothing
to
rest
them on except the bulbs. It only cost me $8 at Home Depot. I wish I
could
find another one.. Lights of America doesn't seem to be a viable
company
anymore..
I know what you are talking about. I have seen them before but I read
that
they tear through your bulbs real fast and you dont get the right
wattagr
from the bulbs because the ballasts are cheap. I'm not knocking it
though,
I'll prolly end up going that route myself. I want to get some blue and
white lights going and this little perfecto hood I have is NOT going to
cut
it!
What kind of *crappy* skimmer are you talking about?
Why a Seclone of course. What other crappy skimmers are there
Some are crappy in
terms of not working well even though they cost alot. Inexpensive
doesn't
make them crappy. I have a Berlin 60 on my 55 and I love it.. it was
only
$40. I have a Prism on a 10 gallon tank (it used to be on the 55) and
it
only cost me something like $40 to $50.. I don't recall exactly. Some
don't
like the Prism, I like it just fine. This hobby does not *have* to be
extremely expensive.
I will have to let someone else comment on the wet/dry.. I do not run
one,
nor do I have a DSB.

Thanks Teeb

I did read the FAQ a couple of months ago.
However, in my effort to take my time, I am starting to forget some
things.
I think I might be going to slow... I took a month to set, level
and
fill
my tank lol!
Anyway, to the point.
If I have a 75 gal FO tank with a DSB and "some" live rock in
conjuction
with a wet/dry and a crappy skimmer.... Will I need High Output
lights
or
will NO Fluorescents do?
I think I remeber reading that the critters in the LR needed the
high
lights
but I cant find that.
Any help appreciated.
