.... The thing is from what I can see the way the controller
works with the setpoint it turns on the power (to the solenoid) when
the ph goes below the setpoint whcih seems to be opposite of what I'd
want. Am I correct about this?...

Is the solenoid a NO (normal on) or NC (normal close) valve? For NC, you
need to shut off the electricity to the solenoid. For NO, you do the
opposite.
