dots running down the roots and a few on the submerged leaf.

Tiny green dots.... are they in a 'jelly' or a string or attached to each
other, free floating, soft, hard, hmmmm, all that said, this has me flummoxed.
You can try to get a clearer picture - though how one does that is beyond my
skill... ;-)
or you can try the jar method:
bring in the 'things' and pond water in a large jar and place them in a sunny,
but not too hot window. Cover the top of the jar with screening, double layer,
secured with a rubber band. Watch the jar... and see what happens!
