Just wondering if rec.ponds ever does a roll call every now and then?
Just to see where everyone is from and what other interests and hobbies
they may have?
BV aka Jeff from Ellicott City, MD. So we're a zone 6ish pond. We get a hard
freeze in the winter, and 100+ temps in the summer.
I have one pond that is roughly 3000 gallons. I use a second smaller pond as
a VF, which overflows a stream back to the main pond. No UV and no
artificial, mechanical filtration. I used 45 mil EPDM for both ponds, and am
currently lining the stream with a layer of concrete for aesthetic purposes.
The plumbing is all 4'' PVC. We have a bottom drain, and use a 1000gph
Beckett pump.
I've got 4 Petsmart Koi mutts, 4 average goldies, and 1 glorious comet. Oh,
and we have somewhere around a bazillion fat head minnows.
The pond has been designed to be a natural looking, wildlife-friendly pond.
Rocks are used as an accent and do not line the entire perimeter. The
wildlife has crept in, and the pond is now home to at least 3-4 species of
frogs that live en masse in and around the pond.
You'll hear my pond refered to as Shareholders Pond and sometimes Rainbow
pond. To make a long story short, we've had some color issues with our
water. First clay, and then a painful experiment with dye. Nuff said? All
water parameters rock solid through both fiascos. LOL.
Other hobbies? BBQ'ing, rock climbing, music, my kids, F1 racing, and
anything that involves beer.
I got into ponding about 1.5 years ago, and dove in head first. I now have
my second pond liner in the yard ready to be sunk, and BTW, I traded a beer
for this liner.

It's a hard preformed liner. I also have a piece of liner
ready for my soon to be installed Lotus garden.
Yes, I am a PORG, and damn proud of it.
BV.
