If it is an upflow there needs to be a space for the algae and stuff
to settle out. The layers get progressively finer and are divided by
the eggcrate lighting grids. I use window screening, bath scrubbers,
nylon net and finally the foam mattres topper. The filter body could
be a Rubber Maid toe or a stock tank. I have the latter for my large
pond. Happy water gardening.
