Thanks a million for your installation instructions, Rich. I Know
I'll be able to find a couple of pond guys to install it now ;-)

I don't have the Savio, but have installed skimmers with similar features
both before and after the pond was installed. It is not hard. As a retro
fit, it is easiest to drain the pond to the level of the bottom of the
skimmer, but can be done by inserting a piece of plywood between the liner
and the pond wall before digging the hole for the skimmer. Dig a hole
that
is the correct depth to put the skimmer door opening at the correct
height.
I like mine to be just below the top of the door opening at pond overflow
height so that the pond can be drained down the 5 or 6 or 8 inches to the
bottom of the door without the skimmer going dry. Insert the skimmer in
the
hole and backfill from behind to push the skimmer forward into the liner.
If you used the plywood, remove it now, and the liner will lay against the
skimmer. Be sure the water level is low enough to have the door
completely
above water level. Cut the liner to match the skimmer opening and install
the weir and face plate, all with silicone caulk between liner and
skimmer,
liner and weir, liner or weir and face plate. Mine has screws to hold the
face plate on, and these would then be installed. Refill pond. If it has
a
bottom drain fitting, as I put in mine, a bulkhead fitting ties the liner
to
the front of the skimmer box. Use silicone on this connection also, if
you
drain the pond to that level. I have cut the liner for the bulkhead
fitting
with the pond full and though I am sure there was some leakage, it was
minor.

The model 85 towards the bottom is the one that allows the door to be
closed
and suck water from the bottom. That is the model I have.

Look at a Savio skimmer, you can set it up to skim normally and
when
you
want to suck off the bottom close the door and it will suck from
the
bottom.

Can anyone reccomend a good filter setup to remove leaves,
dirt
and
debris ? I am not the most handiest at building any type of
filter.
