If I should decide to keep him ( am I insane ? ), would I be able to
maintain him alone in a 30 gallon long tank? Like I said, no gravel,
plenty of filtration, regular partial water changes.

My 5" buttikoferi lives and plays happily with a Leporinus Fasciatus in
a 38g tank right now.. a few more months and I'll upgrade again. If
anything, the Lep is the more agressive of the two.

As for the other fish you've listed, they are all eventual fish food in
anything under 200g.
