pump heat transfer; recommendations ?
I have a Custom Sea Life T1 circulation pump. This is the one with
the titanium bearings. It is a -very quiet- pump. The problem is
that I think it is transferring too much heat into my aquarium. The
previous pump I had, which was a cheap pump (aquamedic) was noisy and
the bearings kept failing, but it operated the aquarium at a lower
temperation- but i had to get rid of it because it was unreliable.
For example, with the old pump the aquarium consistently ran at about
79-81 degrees without a chiller. With the current T1 pump (rated at
96 watts) , the aquarium pump runs much quieter, but to keep it at 79
degrees, the chiller goes on about 7-8 times daily. Without the
chiller, the temperature goes up to 82+ with this pump which is too
hot. I believe that the flow rates of both pumps were about the same
(at least from what I can tell).
I would like to find a pump which is quiet and efficient in terms of
heat transfer and I am willing to spend money. the cost of having the
chiller go on and off so frequently is much more expensive that any
pump.
