glass reef aquarium
Hi everyone, I'm new to this group, but not new to the hobby. I've got about 10 years experience in the reef/marine aquaria hobby and I've decided to
start up again after a five or six year hiatus.
I seem to remember that about 8 years ago a company was making glass aquaria specifically for the reef trade that resembled acrylic aquaria in design
i.e. a partially "closed top", no hideous plastic binding typical of glass tanks on top and bottom, and nicely welded edges that are sealed with
something other than silicone. It was also "optically clear". I remember them being available in one of my local fish stores as regular stock, so it
wasn't something /that/ exotic. Unfortunately, this store is no longer in business.
I prefer acrylic tanks just for the look and ease of modifications (drilling for plumbing etc) but was appalled by the prices. Can someone explain to
my why the same (although undoubtedly even more mass produced) 60gal tank is now twice as much as it used to be only a few years ago?
Anyways, does anyone know the brand name or type of glass aquarium that I speak of? If not, can someone recommend a good glass aquarium brand for reef
keeping? Thanks!
