I brought a Siamese Fighting fish home today, placed him in a community tank
with some Neon Tetras & Zebra Danios. Since putting him in the tank I have
noticed that he regularly flares out his gills, or something around that
area, seemingly when he's looking towards the glass. I know that these guys
fight others of their kind & display in a similar way when a mirror is put
against the aquarium, so I assume this is part of his display. Will him
doing this almost constantly cause any problems? ie tire him out? I have
taken a couple of pictures of his display, but need to find the cable to
connect the camera to the computer. I'll post a picture to alt.binaries as
soon as I find it.

He's just fine doing that.
It's actually good exercise for him.
He won't wear himself out. He may soon tire of his relfection flare "buddy",
and only do it occasionally.
When he puffs out his gills it's called the "beard", or that's what us breeders
call it. hehe
It's supposed to make him look larger to the "intruder".
