Yeah, I found that site as well, and sent an email a couple of days ago.

The more I look at the video to demo the system, the more I get the
impression it's just a bucket with level detector that fires the pump
when the water level has risen above a preset threshold.
Now the trick is to find the right frequency/water volume to get maximum
wave buildup.

Exactly what i was thinking
Being 12 volt, those magnetic float reed switches could be plugged right
into the power supply, add a controlable timer and you can adjust the time
the pumps runs for, I pretty sure you could `tune' the wave box to work. On
the guys site he mentioned the used of a modified Tunze Controller.
