thanks ingrid, starfish,
i must admit that melafix was a favorite of mine. the again so was amquel,
stresszyme and countless other products
that claimed to benefit either the fry's or the general water condittions
and ended up cuasing negative creeps.
fresh watr and salt? not as glamorous as all those other chemicals its
produced just as positive results as when ive
routinely applied market water condtioners. one thing im afraid to stop
using is dechlore. it's new york water im dealing with and hudsun river
water for that matter.
its supposed to be cleaner these days but but i happen to know that our
plumbing system is a ticking time bomb due to its age and poor maintanance.
i used to give my dog and cats tap water and i could see rust settle on the
bottom of the bowls specially during the summer. ok going off suBJECT...rob
come back to subject please..ok sorry. the fry once pulled out of
intake of powehead was very much alive but unsteady and a bit warped in
shape. I
took it out of the tank and put it into 5 liters of it own tank water. for
fear of sujecting it drastic temp/changes i put it back in it 55galon
habitat and am keeping it in mesh breeder cage near the surface. its
nolonger swing like its drunk and it ater for the first itme since( one
pellet of progold predipped in tank water for minimum of 5 minutes. its
definitely pooping howerver valuable that data may be. loke ingrid said it
may or may not make it. ilost some fish sometime ago to itch.
notibly the deaths occured after disease was treated and apparently gone.
thanks again for the speedy replies.

melafix types are medications that impact on the gills and all medications

should be
used with caution but especially with fry. a bit of salt and clean water

and the
fish will come around or it wont.
melafix types are a current version of a very old medication that was used

in the
past or I should say people didnt use it much since there were other

things that were
less toxic and worked better. one problem with melafix type meds is they

can cause
the outer epithelium tissue to heal over even when there is a bacterial

infection
going on in the tissue underneath. this is not a good outcome.

euca
all medications have side effects so the balance is benefit to cost ratio.

fresh
water and a bit of salt is all benefit, no cost. from there on everything

got cost
in terms of harm to some part of the fish. For example: malachite green

and its
breakdown compound(s) are mutagenic.
so treat with the least caustic medication and treat specifically instead

of using a
shotgun approach of just tossing everything into the water. many of the

meds have
bad drug interactions.

If the fish doesnt seem bothered by that episode, ti might be ok...You

could
try putting some melafix into the water to help with healing of missing
scales and scrapes and all those types of injuries...The bottle doesnt

say
that you cant treat fry so I assume it would be safe o them..
what does everyone else think about this?
