Hi,
I live in Brisbane Australia. I recently bought a baby red tiger oscar.
Does it require a heater? It is quite warm here in summer, take today
for instance it was about 30 degrees celcius and very humid. However it
does get as low as 12 degrees celcius in Winter. I was once told that
oscars don't require heaters, but I have heard stories on these news
groups of people's oscars smashing their heaters! Maybe these people
live in areas where it snows, can someone clarify this for me?
Thanks.

Yes, Oscars need heaters. Sometimes, when they reach mating age (around
7") they destroy their heaters and there's hundreds of theories why;
but there's a few creative ways to keep this from happening. Most
commonly, by putting the heater behind a tank divider, or mounting it
in PVC and drilling holes in the pipe.
