Each engine is *slightly* different in width, ans the new mufflers that
are built on different jigs
are just slightly different too.. they NEVER fit right.
You practically always have to use a little force to get them on.

The old muffler seems to be a perfect fit, because it has taken the new
shape due to the countless heat cycles it has seen over the years. It
didn't fit any better when it was first installed.

It would require a lot of luck to find a muffler that fits right in
without forcing it.

I.e. Don't worry about it. Just do what you need to get it on.
