Hiya
I was wondering if anyone could advise me how and when to split a large water lily currently going wild in my garden pond. Any advice gratefully received. Debbie Cornwall, UK |

They have a large "tuber" that can become very long. I wait until they are dormant and just break it into smaller pieces about 8 to 10" long. I remove any soft parts since that is rot. If it is big enough, I just keep parts that are free of soft areas. Then I repot with the "tuber" at an angle slightly up from the horizontal. Mine had a tuber that had grown over 50' long and I broke it into about 25 pieces that were good and solid. Now I am going to try to keep it under control and in lily pots. -- Pardon my spam deterrent; send email to Cheers, Steve Henning in Reading, PA USA http://home.earthlink.net/~rhodyman |
