My flame angel isn't too impressed with my clown fish in a 100 gal. They've
been together years, but I suspect neither really wants to share a tank with
the other, probably because of the fact they are roughly the same colour.
The clown got there first (I've had it it over 15 years) and is quite large,
I suspect that if I'd put a small clown into a tank containing the flame
angel the angel would have killed it, so you might want to watch that
combination.

Personally, I'd skip the clown because they can get rather too friendly with
some anemones (especially whilst the anemone is trying to find a good
location). But if it's there already and not too big you should be OK.

Hmm. Are you saying 'yes, I can get comments', or 'yes, I can add a
flame angel.'?

Yes, you can add a flame angel to that list of reeflings.

Just remember that is it 50/50 when it comes to Dwarf Angels
and clams.

And then there is the issue of the Flame Angel living. They
have a reputation for being absolutely fine, eating and
swimming, but on Day 14 they suddenly die. If yours lives
that long, you are almost home-free. The next hurdle is 2
months. After that, you can enjoy the fish with no worries.

My belief is that the ones that die on Day 14 are caught
with cyanide and the poisoning takes that long before the
fish suddenly dies.

I love Flame Angels, and have had mine for about 2 years I
think. Maybe longer. Our former club president had a tank
with a harem of Flames, and to see 6 of them swirling around
at feeding time was A W E S O M E!

All critters listed are already present, and it's only the angel I'm
considering. I have been researching for a couple weeks, and some
reliable resources, (like Marc) say sure, while others, like 'The
Concientious Marine Aquarist' imply rather strongly that flames are
not suitable for tanks containing corals and inverts. My struggle
continues...

They'll be fine. It's more an individual fish problem, than a species
problem. In fact, I have a half-black, flame, coral beauty, and bicolor,
and none of them bother the corals.

Another thing dragging me back. I'd like to get a tridnacnid clam
eventually. I'm just going to have to get another tank. That's all
there is to it.

I've read of this, and have been working very hard to keep my system

Again, something I've read about, and I was terrified to learn that
it's happening in places other than the Phillipines, where it
apparently started. My "source" for fish doesn't buy anything that
came from the Phillipines, but it's getting really hard in general to
find healthy fish, depending on the species.

Sounds fantastic!! How large a tank was required for these?

The harem was in a big tank, something like a 150g I guess.
I was a custom cube, and there was a shoal in the center
that the reef was built upon, and the Flame Angels were
hiding in the caves. Brad dropped in some flake food, and
all this color can flying out of the reef rock. It was very
cool. Wish I had my camera back then.

I've just checked - I 've had my Flame Angel since 7th January 2001, and all
that time it has not attacked any coral or clams. You should be fine.

I have 2 clams, 4 angels. So far, so good.

Make sure you buy from a dealer you trust. Ask his/her advice on each
individual fish.
