Default MH taking longer to turn on.

Hi all,

I have a MH pendant with a 175w true 10K german bulb. It replaced a 20K
from coral life that was 1 1/2 old.

I've been using the 10K one for a month. Both bulbs turned/turn on
immediately I hit the ballast switch, albeit very dim, and usually
developing intensity as seconds go by.

Yesterday, it took the bulb about 1/2 hour to light up. Today, again the
same thing. Absolutely not an iota of light when I turn the switch on.

Could it be the ballast or the bulb? Any suggestions are welcomed greatly.

Regards,

Richard

It's probably the ballast. I had the same problem on my pendants before I
switched to surface mount lighting by PFO.

CAN/CSA, C22.2 No. 74 and UL 1029 Listed

Canadian Certified, US Certified. They are currently in testing with Ford,
General Motors, and Crysler to light 99% of there buildings throughout
Canada, and the US

And if the big three are interested, the reef world will be too.

Ripe off?

Can you run any 400 MH off one Ballast? I know you cannot With this ballast
you can run

250 Watt MH, all bases, and it will recognize the difference on ever bulb
from 1200K all the way to 20,000K
400 Watt MH same as the above

Best thing for the reef industry is one ballast for any fixture, any bulb.

Start at 250, and move to 400 watts with out the expense of buying another
ballast

Here is another kick in the teeth

Want to underdrive you bulb? How about over drive your bulb

These also have the ability to do either

How is that for a rip off

This is getting confusing?

You mean my ballast is shot? I only need one to power a 175 W bulb. I
can live with the ballast taking a couple of hours to light up. Or am I
looking for longer periods for it to light up?

TIA,

Richard

Richard

I would say you can look at the fact that your ballast is going out, it is
not the bulb, rarely is it the bulb that is the problem unless of course it
is an old bulb.

You best bet is it is either the ballast itself or it could also be the
starter on the ballast, I would take it into either an elctrician or the
store you bought it from.

How old is the ballast? You have to know that the will not last forever
right? if it is over three years old you may start having problems with the
ballast itself.

Hi David,

The ballast is less than 2 years old! The bulb is 1 month old.

I'm dumbfounded that it's actually going on me?
