Does anybody have any comment on using a small proportion of tap water to
make up my tank, due to the size of containers I can get and the distance to travel the initial set up of my tank would be easier if I could about 5- 10% tapwater. |

Have you tested your tap water for phosphate, copper, etc?

Tap water is all I use... but I have amazing tap water.... just let it sit
and circulate for a day or two to get the Cl out.... 0 Cu, 0 P, Ca through the roof.... but it is a from a CaCo4 spring that feeds the whole city, very exceptional water. If your water isn't good anything you put in your tank is very hard if not impossible to get out completely. And it will build. Every you add more water you add a little more, say P, which will not be removed without water changes or removing of macro algae. SO while I do it I do not recommend it for most... check your water. Most come from a lake, which is horrid. Tre' Landrum "Martin" wrote in message ... Does anybody have any comment on using a small proportion of tap water to make up my tank, due to the size of containers I can get and the distance to travel the initial set up of my tank would be easier if I could about 5- 10% tapwater. Why not do initial set up with 10% of water missing at all and add this missing 10% water later on. You do not care that the tank is not filled to the top, do you ? I would leave it not filled rather than fill it up with tap water. |
