Default Making a fish tank

I'm a reasonably decent woodworker and was thinking about making my own
aquarium--maybe 200 gallons or so.

Does anyone know a source of information, plans or specs for materials?

I'm not an engineer and would need to know things like how long and wide a
piece of glass or Plexiglas I could use and how thick it needs to be.

Anybody done anything like this?

I was also thinking about the prospect of having only one side out of glass
and the bottom and three sides made out of plywood lined with Formica. Does
that make any sense to anyone out there?

These are things I think about while sitting by my pond with a glass of
wine. It does stimulate creativity!! ;-)

Thanks,

Tom in Howell

GARF.org is a predominately sal****er site, however, they have some
good plan on this. I am actually getting ready to finish my basement
and build one in the wall. About a 240 gal I think. Let me know if
you do this as I would like to see how it turns out.

my partner made our aquarium cabinet - i dont know if its the sort of thing you'd want. we got a glass tank, then he made the cabinet to fit. It has a cuboard and shelving below, and a wooden cover on top - its looks dead good!

check out
http://www.garf.org/tank/buildtank.asp it will give you all the anwsers you need.

used that site to make some 300 and 500 gallon tanks.

Not sure about formica, I always use potable water tank paint to treat the insides of plywood.
